People are always complaining about almost of the circuits in f1, thats an impossible to overtake circuit and bla bla.. as far as i know the bests circuit on f1 (Spa, Susuka.. etc..) arent designed by tillke... soo why ALL the new circuits are designed by him?? we can use some variety... bring on the guy who did susuka or spa.... or another guy, i dont know theres plenty of guys who can do it! one with racing experience will do better i think.. what dou you guys think??
well some variety would be welcome. Tilke's only idea about providing some overtaking opportunity on his tracks is long long straight follwed by tight corber or hairpin :-) but I would not blame only Tilke for lack of overtaking. these days unless the track is crumbling like in Montreal or gets wet the overtkaing is almost impossible anywhere. would be interesting to see how these Tilkedromes will work with new 2009 design cars
I'm not a follower of him, but wouldn't do better than he and all his engineer team (some may be expert architects, industrial engineers, electronics engineers, risk prevention specialists or whatever). So the company is really the most powerful about circuit planning, which may be a vicious cycle, because he's getting all the work around F1 circuit's design & circuit's layout improvement, so there's no one else competitive in that case that can do better I think. Another people could do better as you say, but would take longer time to finalize any project, and that's not interesting for promoters, organizers, governments and for Bernie :-P
Tilke GmbH has made the first step in F1 world 10 years ago, with a notorious design of Sepang with a tricky circuit and many new concepts which weren't usual before. Tilke managed well the topic of safety, created the idea of large paddocks for wider hospitalities and motorhomes, and reinvented the way of seeing F1 in TV maybe (that's about the 2 hours which we're watching every 2 weekends, some kind of martyrdom processions, waiting for the pit stops for seeing something interesting).
As for me he has done a pretty good work, he's maybe just lacking of some imagination. But the work done by Tilke suits the highest safety standards and completely valid for having more overtaking maneuvers, but just not possible now. I do prefer his circuits more than these handful of US circuits which have been during the 80's and 90's.
Anyway do not complain too loud about his work, or he could hear you and decide to leave the Cancún circuit project :-P Just kidding, hopefully that circuit looks well in some time :-)

hehe, well youre right, im an architect myself (well im going in december) :) and i would be awesoome to work with this guy... but why not also use the ones that did spa or susuka??
as far as i know the cancun track is cancelled...it was called "circuito mantarraya"...yesterday i read in a automotive magazine that another investors meet up with bernie in monza and theyre plan is to do the track in guadalajara (THE CITY IM LIVING RIGHT NOW!! :) )
Guadalajara gobernor had also said in various ocassions that he wanted to bring f1 to the city.. he went to the red bull roadshow. and it seems like he loves racing!
right now the city has 2 circuits and 1 oval. but any of them are anywhere near of a proper circuit. so they have to start from scracth..... ill keep you guys posted on this issue.
and if any of you know to get me a job with tillke plz let me know!!!
Send yourself a resume to Germany, but actually one of Tilke's offices is in Spain in "La ciudad del Motor" in Aragón :-P What I recommend is that after your diploma, you take some fresh air in a new country and study some post-degree master.
I got two Mexican friends which did it, and you know what? It worked to them!! They're working on the designs and the project management of one from the stations of the L9 underground in Barcelona.
Well they let Tiger Woods design golf courses, and Palmer and So on... Why not let Schumacher or Hill or any fromer champion design the perfect course.?
