AT&T Williams F1 Team fan sector: results after round 15 in Singapore

Williams Fan Sector

The delay is taking part as something usual HAHA!! Anyway, I'm enjoying to produce a good resume after the last GP in Singapore from the point of view of the AT&T Williams F1 Team, not really better than this done by F1Wolf who attended to the race himself and enjoyed the first night race in F1 history!!! Follow this link to take a look: 2008 Singapore F1 GP - Wolf’s Race Review - As seen from Turn 1.

The race has been a great venue, the track has some problems which remembers us the torment of driving on Interlagos, serious bumped breaking points and also some terrifying corners which are very close to the walls which remembers more than to Monaco, a little bit of Phoenix in the beginnings of 90's. The whole environment, the teams and the crowd, seemed to be fantastic and really expecting a great show in the darkness, but well illuminated, the best news is that an F1 race at night is possible :-) And better is that other countries are open to host an F1 night race, well hopefully the quality of being a night race remains unique and doesn't convert into capricious events which waste lots of money, but I should say that watching the Formula 1 circus at the usual appointment time is really comfortable for Europeans :-)

For the Williams drivers this race was successful and very satisfying for those who lost hopes for this season... Yeah, maybe we won't be World Champions but keep visiting the podium :-) Anyway, a F1 prophet believes that the AT&T Williams F1 Team will win the title in 2009!!! The new F1WolfClub community member, Tony Suhanny.

Nico Rosberg was rewarded with good luck after the decision of one sure penalty was delayed some minutes, and the team's strategy managed to remain him 2nd after his Stop & Go penalty, Nico managed to visit the podium for second time this season and improving his best result which was 3rd in the Australian GP. Kazuki Nakajima did the job, placing his Williams FW30 in the last point and achieving one of his objectives this season, be in the points.
Race winner was Fernando Alonso, with insulating performance with his car, he managed to place a worse car than his followers in the 1st place. The happiness of all were the squad of Renault F1, after the accident of Nelson Piquet Jr. they could see their prodigal son winning again for them :-)

Here's a great video edit by the F1.com, whom I will ask reproduction rights and comprehension for publishing that short review from this incredible race!

Some words from the team after the race

Podium! Nico Rosberg led home a double points score for the AT&T Williams team, in the process claiming a career-best second place in the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix. In an incident-filled and physically demanding race, Rosberg overcame the disadvantage of a stop-go penalty with a superlative drive in Formula One’s first night race to score eight points and the team’s best finish since the European Grand Prix in 2005. Team-mate Kazuki Nakajima contributed a further point to the tally with a spirited drive to eighth place.

Nico Rosberg:
It was a race of so many ups and downs for me. It started badly as I ended up behind a heavy Jarno Trulli and I absolutely had to get by him to allow my strategy to work. It was quite a hairy moment getting past because it is so bumpy to outbrake at turn 7 and I couldn’t get close at turn 1, the only two places where overtaking is possible. Anyway, having eventually cleared him, I couldn’t believe it when I saw that the safety car had come out just after the team had called me in for my stop and I thought that’s the end of it. Before my stop-go penalty, I just had to push like mad and do qualifying lap after qualifying lap and I managed to build enough of a gap to complete my second stop and hold on to second place. With a handful or laps to go in the most physical race this year and a car in your mirrors, time goes amazingly slowly, but for once everything went our way. I think Frank will have to wear his lucky tartan trousers again!

Kazuki Nakajima:
It was a great day for the team, returning to form and of course congratulations to Nico. As far as my race was concerned, the Safety Car timing was a little bit unfortunate, but I just had to push my race pace on regardless of what happened and overtake a few cars, and in the end, it was great to claim a point for the first time in a while. Hopefully today showed potential which we can try to maintain for the rest of the season.

Sam Michael, Technical Director:
It was a fantastic result from Nico, obviously the penalty for refuelling under the safety car could have been a problem, but he still managed to open up a sufficient gap to achieve a second podium this season and his career best finish. Kazuki did well to hang in there and score a point too, all-in-all it was just what the team needed. We didn’t have any technical problems and everything went without a hitch, so it was a great effort from everyone concerned.
