For sure they haven't released any pictures; well Wolf did manage to spot some HEHE!! It was the innocent Patrick Head in some airport in the way to Montreal, I'm right? He told his opinion about the designs which he saw in one post over F1Wolf.com (here's the most recent link which includes the older thread, 2009 Formula 1 cars look).
Anyway, there have been several ideas already spotted by the photographs around the circuits during testing days sessions. And currently it's easy to build yourself an idea how the cars will be :-) Anyway, I do believe the last issue of F1 racing in August did a good job to do a 2009's car preview with a basic design, but still lacking imagination. Take a look on that magazine!
Although I think the teams will build different designs for the nosecone areas, lover than we usually see them, and quite moving the tendency of creating front grip to the rear end for a better traction (the massive wings will be removed). Slicks bring an aerodynamic advantage and of course new grip settings, they may follow with the suspensions which exists nowadays, but I do believe they will be developed within the time (some people in aero departments will need to find a new job maybe, so there is surely a place where to work, suspensions design and placement). These moving flaps, which could be changed for several times during a lap are the most complicated to me to imagine, the device should be moved by some kind of pulleys and belts, by some resistances and condenser activating some magnets or small electric motors, I'm really curious how it will be applied because I do not have any clear idea. About KERS now is the fashion to think that is useless and dangerous, surely it is if the idea isn't developed well :-) But I believe some teams own already the design of a powerful secret weapon!! What I mean is that some teams regret of the use because they still didn't manage to find the way to build this device, and there are others which have been investing for it and already own prototypes with what to work and better, and few teams already own a real good KERS for their use (that's why AT&T Williams F1 Team maybe do not agree to not include the device in the next season, they bought an entire company, Hybrid Power, to dedicate their effort to create the next season's KERS).
So, in resume, the only which I can't imagine at all are the colors of the cars and the sponsors stickers on them, during next months all that will be unveiled ;-)
Here the right place to know about 2009 cars designs and the regulations! Be back to comment and post some pictures, I'm very interested to know more about 2009's season :-)
yes it was the innocent Patrick Head looking at his 2009 car blueprints in the open area of Chicago airport like it was just a new issue of F1 Racing :-) Well, and the article in last month F1 Racing with the 2009 car analysis only further confirmed my suspision that what Mr. Head had in hands were indeed 2009 car drawings
officially nothing has been released by any teams, the closest we can get are pics from the slick tyre runs in some of the recent F1 test where teams also simulate 2009 reduced downforce levels
Wolf, I many times thought that Patrick wasn't looking any official design, but some material from sny magazine to provide his expert eyes expirience. Anyway, I don not believe that somebody walks through half wolrd with such important documents, anybody could steal them easily. Anyway, will we know about that someday? That could part from the Williams next year :-) And if that's true, I'm pretty glad the car is on workshops soon.
I have heared there are drivers testing in simulators with the specs of 2009 cars, and they do feel comfortable with them as some said that overtaking will increase.
By the way, I was yesterday looking the new championship Superleague Formula, an interesting format to a time race and a sinlge car by team representing the dreams of football teams (that's soccer), somehow we can feel our colours defended. It's not that popular as GP2, but hopefully after some complete seasons it turns like another point of view on the races. That formula is something alike F-Master or A1GP, but the design remembers me to what we should see next year in F1. Not bad looking, but after all isn't the same, the cars are heavy and not that powerful (V12 of 750CV, at max 12.000rpm), but they do have empty livery of wings, and quite good designed front wing and rear wing with wide flaps, the car develops high speeds but not good cornering speed at all. Anyway, the official website tells about speeds arround 300Km/h, pretty good for such car!!! So will be next 2009 F1's something like that???
